LGBTQ leaders, and neighborhood organizations, historians, activists, and community members gathered at Harvey Milk Plaza and marched through the Castro, laying black wreaths at the sites of shuttered queer spaces in the historic LGBTQ district. Participants called on elected officials, foundations and philanthropists, venture capitalists as well as residents and lovers of San Francisco, to both commemorate the city’s LGBTQ vibrant past and inspire a brighter future. With the growing number of vacancies in the Castro District, there is the need for active steps to be taken to sustain the city’s living queer heritage and culture. The march began at Harvey Milk Plaza and concluded at the Lookout Bar.
